What has humanity become,

Seeded with a hunger
To serve these unseen masters?
Ambition, a drive to make our mark
And be remembered.
Religion, a fear that death means
Who we are, will one day
Cease to be.
God, a solemn wish that responsibility
For all we leave behind
Is not our own.
All mere man-made constructs,
Dictating our existence —
Where the pursuit of simple happiness
Has ever been our only goal.
